A simplified model for A. Niger FS3 growth during phytase formation in solid State fermentation BABT
Spier,Michele Rigon; Letti,Luiz Alberto Junior; Woiciechowski,Adenise Lorenci; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo.
A simplified model to describe fungal growth during citric pulp fermentation for phytase production was described for the first time. Experimental data for biomass growth were adjusted to classical mathematical growth models (Monod and Logistic). The Monod model predictions showed good agreement with the experimental results for biomass concentration during 96 hours of fermentation. Parameters such as yield of biomass from oxygen (Y X/O), maintenance coefficient (m) and specific growth rate (µ) were compared showing a good correlation between the data and the model. An alternative method for biomass determination in this process was developed since a great correlation was found between biomass growth and enzyme formation.

Effects of Fungicides on the Development of the Entomopathogenic Fungus Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Yáñez,Maribel; France,Andrés.
Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) Sorokin is an entomopathogenic fungus used for controlling different insect pests. It is most frequently applied to berry fruit crops, where fungicides are also used for disease control. Fungicides: azoxystrobin, benomyl, captan, chlorothalonil, fenhexamid, fludioxonil, iprodione, and metalaxyl in concentrations of 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10, and 100 mg L-1 were evaluated in this research study. Vegetative growth, conidia germination, and conidia germination tube length were measured on the Qu-M82, Qu-M151b, Qu-M253, Qu-M430, and Qu-M984 Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae fungus strains. Those strains were selected because of their present use against different insect pest in bramble fruits. Vegetative growth was measured...

Extracellular amylase production of a thermotolerant Fusarium sp: isolated from Eastern Nigerian soil BABT
Nwagu,Tochukwu Nwamaka; Okolo,Bartholomew Ndubuisi.
In this work, an α- amylase producing Fusarium sp. was isolated from the soil at 50 0C. Growth and enzyme production occurred at 30, 45 and 55 ºC. Soybean meal at 1% concentration, supplemented with 0.2% NH4Cl and 2.5% corn starch elicited the highest amylase yield. Optimum pH for the enzyme was pH 6.5 which retained over 60% of its activity after 24 h incubation at the pH range of 4.5-7.0. The enzyme showed high activity from 40-70 0C with optimal activity at 50 ºC and 78% activity was retained after incubation at 70 ºC for 30min. Catalytic function of the crude amylase was stimulated by Mg (136%), Ca (118%) and Zn (118%) at 2mM concentrations. The enzyme hydrolyzed cassava, potato and yam starches effectively.

Extractos vegetales y Trichoderma spp. en el control de Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. y Sacc. en frutos de papaya maradol (Carica papaya L.) en postcosecha. Colegio de Postgraduados
Landero Valenzuela, Nadia.

Protease production during growth and autolysis of submerged Metarhizium anisopliae cultures Rev. Microbiol.
Braga,Gilberto U.L.; Destéfano,Ricardo H.R.; Messias,Claudio L..
The growth and autolysis of two strains of the entomopathogenic deuteromycete fungus Metarhizium anisopliae var. anisopliae were evaluated in medium containing casein or glucose as carbon source. Parameters such as economic coefficient and degree of autolysis were determined for each strain. Protease production was determined throughout the growth and autolysis phases of the cultures on medium under conditions of protease induction (in the presence of casein as sole source of carbon and nitrogen). The fungus was shown to utilize casein as a carbon/energy source in a more efficient manner than glucose. The autolysis shown by the strains was intense under both types of growth conditions, reaching up to 62.7% of the dry mass produced and started soon after...

The relationship between fungi growth and aflatoxin production with ergosterol content of corn grains BJM
Castro,Maria Fernanda Penteado Moretzsohn de; Bragagnolo,Neura; Valentini,Sílvia Regina de Toledo.
The relationships between fungal growth and ergosterol content and between aflatoxins B1 and B2 production and ergosterol content were verified in corn grains. In the first experiment, fungal growth and ergosterol content were monitored during incubation of corn grains presenting water activities of 0.85a w and 0.92a w at 25ºC over a period of 18 days. For the Taiúba variety, the fungi growth and ergosterol content increased more rapidly for 0.92a w than 0.85a w. Maximum ergosterol levels were 2.8 and 4.6 µg/g, respectively, for 0.85a w and 0.92a w. For the Cargill hybrid 606, a more pronounced increase in fungal growth was verified just at the end of the incubation period, mainly for 0.92a w when an acentuated increase in ergosterol content was also...
